
New immigration measures to support Ukrainian nationals
Although Visa Application Centers (VACs) in Ukraine have been closed to the public since February 24, 2022, Canada has taken steps to prioritize applications from people with a primary residence in Ukraine:
- Grant of citizenship for adoptions
- Permanent residence
- Temporary residence (study permit, work permit and travel to join family).
The following new measures have also been implemented:
- Add "UKRAINE2022" to the IRCC web form to prioritize emails and enquiries.
- A single trip travel document will be processed on an emergency basis for immediate family members of the following Canadian citizens and permanent residents who do not have a valid passport.
- Ukrainians who are temporarily in Canada can apply to extend their stay immediately.
- Ukrainians who are in Canada and have a valid job offer can start working while awaiting a decision on their work permit application.
- Ukrainians with visitor visa, study permit and work permit who cannot return to their country can apply for an open work permit.
To further assist residents of Ukraine, IRCC will be waiving government fees for the following documents: Canadian passports, permanent resident travel documents, proof of citizenship, visitor visas, study permits and work permits. study permit and work permit.
